OEE for ALL Students

Perhaps your child's school offers an overnight outdoor environmental education (OEE) trip, or perhaps not.

Sadly, what was once quite common, very effective, and life-changing has fallen prey to budget cuts and insurance concerns resulting in fewer schools offering OEE.  When a classroom of students ventures to camp, usually their curriculum comes alive with the addition of hands-on activities as well as the experience of living, and working together as a community of learners.

When we started our OEE Program at Sound View.  We decided to offer a few weeks where kids can come as individuals - not as part of a school,  Spring break weeks are ideal for this outreach and hopefully, your child's spring break week is covered.

Outdoor Environmental Education is a little different than summer camp. Because students and teachers come to camp expecting to learn about the environment, we offer curriculum pertinent to our particular site.  Sound View has an incredible tidal range so, of course, much of what we do happens on the beach.  But, we also are host to diverse woodlands and a mini-farm so learning occurs all through camp.  The "outdoor" aspect of OEE is learning in the outdoors what is best taught in the outdoors so, besides the nature activities, would include archery, shelter-building, canoeing, orienteering and other classes.

For the Spring Break Camps, our naturalists also act as cabin leaders unless we can find volunteer moms/dads who want to experience Spring Break Camp with their child.  (hint, hint)  Email me if interested!
