Greetings from Sound View Camp!

I am excited to share THIS PAGE which outlines a typical summer week at Sound View.  Over the past three years, we have not only shored up the facility but we have also created distinct program areas.  Much of this was done with outdoor environmental education in mind.  What I am most excited about, is our new ability to offer 4-day lesson plans for these activity areas that focus on creativity, individual choice, and teamwork, culminating in a "show and tell" session on Friday morning.

Each session, campers will get to choose two skill activities:

Makerspace - campers will create individual projects to take home such as clocks, checkerboards, birdhouses, canoe paddles, and whatever they imagine using various tools, wood, and recycled material. The group will also work collaboratively to build one big project to remain at camp.
Theater - campers will work on a camp play - their own production with sets, props, music, and sound effects which will be performed on Friday.  With luck, we will stream it live on Facebook.
Sport of the Day - not just mundane sports but unusual ones as well.  Lacrosse, floor hockey, cricket,  ultimate frisbee, and various forms of dodge ball.
H2 Awesome - the camp waterfront is loaded with things to do.  Campers will become proficient in canoeing, kayaking, corcling (little round boats), knot tying, and water safety.
Music Makers - our growing collection of camp instruments features ukuleles, guitars, banjos, washboards, handbells, chimes, and a djembe. Staff will help the campers learn to play these instruments and work together with others.  Friday’s performance should be amazing.
High Adventure - for campers who wish to spend more time on the challenge course as well as discovering other useful skills such as fire building and using a map & compass.  This skill is taught, in part, by AIESEC volunteers.
Farm, Garden, and International Cuisine - campers will gain knowledge about our mini-farm as well as a few of the cultures around the world - especially about sustainable living. Campers will also cook up some tasty international snacks to share.  This skill is taught, in part, by AIESEC volunteers.

Other classic camp activities such as arts and crafts, archery, paintball, swimming, recreational boatings, etc.. will either be done in cabin groups or during camper's choice time.  There is so much to cram into a short week of camp!  Woven into all of this is the new Sojourners program which encourages goal-setting and Christian growth.

Please share our program with interested families.  I am looking forward to smiling faces of kids learning life-changing things at camp.

Peace,

-Kurt-
